Preservation Conference Highlights Day 3
October 5, 2007Blog friends – who thought day 3 could top day 1 & 2….. !?!?! Honestly, I didn’t believe it was possible! This has been a day of transcending into a whole new space with regard to historic preservation – very difficult to put into words at this late hour of the night… Somewhere between getting here and being here the past 72 hours my brain has shifted to a whole new level. I am having difficulty explaining the magnitude of influence that being surrounded by 2500 brain-iac preservationists, many of whom are the top experts in their respective fields, does to a ‘newbie’ like me who is here for the very first time. Like I said yesterday, I would give my right arm to have my cohorts in Centralia here with me. The value of a conference like this is that initially in deciding to attend you think you are ‘into’ preservation and then once you are here, preservation gets ‘into you.’
My schedule of classes today focused on all the financial aspects of preservation work from non-profit to profit. Revolving funds, capital assets, low interest loans, acquisition funds, raising funds, donations, etc… the full range of topics relating to the money end of things. VERY informative! I took about 17 pages of notes – no kidding! (more…)
