Historical Integrity While Meeting the Needs/Wants of the Present Day Traveler ~ the Challenge is On!
September 11, 2007In order to expedite the process of the Wilson Hotel becoming fully functional again we are working a bi-lateral rehabilitation plan. Currently we are in the construction phase I of IV while co-currently selecting interior ‘finishing’ components ahead of the projected schedule. The Wilson project is working to be as “green” as possible in all of the construction applications. Our goal is to carry this concept through the entire project.
Use of “green” interior décor and amenities is a relatively new concept in the hospitality industry. However, the concept has caught on strong and more and more new technologically sophisticated products are becoming available that meet the “green” criteria. The challenge is in maintaining the continuity of the “green” theme in the hotel by finding products that also maintain the image of “historical integrity” with regard to décor and finish.
We believe that the for the most part when patrons choose to stay at the Historic Wilson Hotel, by in large because of the hotel name alone, they will be expecting an experience that reflects the period and time of the building structure and surrounding environment. We are working diligently to source green goods that are sustainable as well as fair trade certified ~ AND reflective of the period and time of the hotel.
Through this process we have found many innovative products including bamboo sheets and bedding, organic cotton robes and slipper sets, several different organic in room amenities (shampoo & conditioner, soaps), window coverings and carpet/pad to name a few. We are looking to be a leader in the hospitality industry and local community by exercising an honest commitment to green building and sustainable business practices.
