August 4, 2007Can you say LOGISTICS??? Historic renovation in particular takes serious planning and logistical forethought, more than the usual new construction project. The Wilson Hotel is currently in a major state of disrepair from years of neglect. However, there are some wonderful original components of the building that will be reclaimed in a massive salvage effort that is getting ready to begin shortly.
The Wilson renovation and rehabilitation project is working under the flag of Green Building technology. The project is using the guidelines from the Historic Preservation Trust and LEED guidelines for existing buildings. Over the past several weeks our team has been cataloging all the materials that will be salvaged, setting the schedule for deconstruction of the damaged portions of the building and determining new construction scheduling. Many “fix it” repairs have been made to failing components that have been causing continued damage to the building, i.e. roof leaks, window repairs, plumbing leaks, etc… (more…)
